Børge Mogensen coffee table in solid and treated oak. Model 262, produced by Fredericia Stolefabrik, is one of the very first coffee tables designed by Børge Mogensen. This makes it unique and rare! Børge Mogensen's first designs were given a model number beginning with No (number) and then the model number. This model number can also be found on this coffee table. The coffee table was likely designed in the late 1950s, during the early years of the collaboration with Fredericia.
The Danish furniture manufacturer Fredericia Stolefabrik was founded in 1911 by N.P. Ravnsø in the port and industrial town of the same name. In previous years, this town had hosted the most important Scandinavian design fair, the Nordic International Furniture Exhibition. The company and the city continued this practice until 1983.
In 1955, the Ravnsø family sold Fredericia to Andreas Graversen, an interior designer involved with the Danish design cooperative FDB. His first decision was to appoint FDB studio manager Børge Mogensen as head designer.
During his collaboration with FDB, Børge Mogensen collaborated with Hans Wegner to create furniture collections that were modern, functional, and affordable.
Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) was a Danish furniture designer and a key figure in the Danish Modern movement. His functional, minimalist designs, such as the Spanish chair and J39, combine durability and comfort. Inspired by Shaker and Japanese design, he used natural materials such as oak and papercord. His timeless furniture remains iconic and sought-after.
The coffee table has been polished and treated with a suitable Danish oil. It has then been thoroughly polished again. The coffee table is in virtually undamaged condition, with little to no signs of wear. The top has been given an extra protective layer.
