Elegant and timeless, this swivel chair was designed and produced in the 1950s by the TON company in Czechoslovakia. However, it bears the marks of the LIGNA label, which can be seen on the underside of the chair's seat. LIGNA was TON's sister company that produced furniture exclusively for markets outside of Czechoslovakia. The shape of this chair is based on ThonetTON's traditional bentwood furniture making technique, which dates back to the 19th century. The upholstered seat and back are a more typical 1950s aesthetic. The upholstered seat and backrest are covered in a red fabric, an exact representation of the original that has unfortunately been damaged beyond repair. The chair is in excellent vintage condition. The wooden frame has been refurbished and hand finished with a Shellac varnish to achieve the best possible finish and bring out the color and pattern of the beech wood. The fabric has been reupholstered.
