Beautiful set of two vintage ‘Viken’ armchairs, designed by Tove & Edvard Kindt-Larsen and produced by OPE in the 1960s. Tove & Edvard Kindt-Larsen worked closely together from the 1930s onwards and grew into one of Denmark’s most famous design duos, having a major influence on the breakthrough of Danish Modern. These armchairs originate from Denmark and were purchased new at the time from Illums Bolighus in Copenhagen, the iconic department store known for decades for its carefully curated collection of the finest Danish design. Later, the armchairs moved to the Netherlands with their owners. In our workshop, the armchairs have been refreshed while preserving their character. The solid teak frames have been cleaned and refinished, retaining the distinctive patina. The constructions have been inspected, the webbing renewed, and the foam replaced, ensuring the armchairs are ready for years of use once again. The Viken is a prime example of Danish design from the 1960s. The tapered frame, the gracefully curved armrests, and the subtle transitions between the wooden components demonstrate the attention paid to every detail. The result is an armchair in which every line and curve seems to be just right. It is an armchair you sink into comfortably. A place you are naturally drawn to after a long day and where you can just as easily stay for the rest of the evening. A rare Danish design that, over sixty years later, still fits effortlessly into both modern and vintage interiors. Two pieces available; price is per piece.
