Product description
A large oval table from the T69 family, designed by Osvaldo Borsani and Eugenio Gerli for the Italian company Tecno. The original “Tecno Milano” maker’s label is still present under the top. This is a rare, extended version of the model: the top rests on two of the distinctive T69 bases, each made of four curved legs that spread down and up like the petals of a flower. The bases are made of cast aluminium lacquered in matt black, with their outer edges finished in a brushed stainless steel profile. The contrast of black and satin metal emphasises the dynamic lines of the legs, so the table looks light despite its impressive size. The oval top is made of thick smoked glass with a softly ground edge. Its underside has factory-ground recesses into which the pads at the ends of the legs fit, confirming that the top is original and was made for this base from the start. The smoked glass gives the table an elegant, slightly mysterious character while still letting the lines of the bases show through. At 230 cm long, it comfortably seats eight to ten people, and the oval shape makes conversation around the table easy. It is ideal for a large dining room, or as a statement conference table in an office, meeting room or showroom. Osvaldo Borsani (1911–1985) was one of the most important Italian architects and designers of the 20th century. In 1953, together with his brother Fulgenzio, he founded Tecno in Varedo near Milan, which quickly became a byword for modern, technically advanced Italian design. His best-known designs include the D70 sofa and the P40 lounge chair. Eugenio Gerli (1923–2013) was a Milanese architect and designer who worked with Tecno for many years. The table is preserved in its original, very good condition. It shows only minor signs of use consistent with its age: a small chip on the edge of the glass top, light scratches on the glass and minor scratches on the legs.
