Product description
Unique and characterful African wood carving, executed as a cylindrical vase or sculptural vessel. The object is richly hand-carved all around, showing multiple human figures and organic motifs. Due to the continuous reliefs, each side is different, and the object remains interesting from every angle. The shape and figurative style show similarities with East African wood carving traditions, including Makonde, but an exact origin or attribution is not documented. Therefore, I offer it as African wood carving. The object appears to be made from a thick piece of wood and hollowed out on the inside. It has a beautiful natural wood color and characteristic signs of age/use. Some natural drying cracks are visible, especially around the top edge and base. Dimensions: approx. 31cm high × 13 cm wide Material: wood, presumably tropical hardwood Period: presumably second half of the 20th century Condition: good vintage condition, with natural drying cracks and signs of use.
