Product description
Beautiful vintage coffee table model ‘TZ41’, also known as the ‘Liesbosch’, designed by Kho Liang Ie in 1958 and produced by ’t Spectrum in the 1960s. This piece comes from Amsterdam.
In our workshop, the coffee table has been fully restored with respect for the original design. The solid wenge wooden frame has been carefully stripped of its old, discolored lacquer layer and then re-treated. As a result, the wood has regained its original, deep dark brown color and the pronounced wood grain is beautifully highlighted again. The whole is finished with a protective semi-matte lacquer, which preserves the natural look of the wenge wood.
The TZ41 is distinguished by its clear, geometric design and strikingly open construction. Four straight legs and horizontal connections together form a sleek wooden framework on which the glass top rests. Due to the transparency of the glass, the entire construction remains visible and the wooden frame plays a central role in the design.
The dark, solid wenge wood forms a beautiful contrast with the glass, giving the table a particularly airy appearance despite its sturdy construction. The simple structure and the absence of superfluous details give the design its characteristic, understated look.
As a designer and artistic advisor at ’t Spectrum, Kho Liang Ie played an important role in the development of Dutch post-war furniture design. Under his artistic direction, the furniture factory developed an innovative design identity in the 1950s and grew into an important name within Dutch furniture design.
The TZ41 is a characteristic example of his early work and a special piece of Dutch design from the late 1950s.
