Product description
One of the most characteristic pieces of Scandinavian design from the late 20th century is Tord Björklund's iconic 'Skye' Chaise Longue, which combines ergonomic design, the minimalism of raw steel, and the organic warmth of dark, patinated leather upholstery. The special feature of this model is the wavy seat, curved in a single flowing line, which adapts perfectly to the body shape, making it both functional and sculptural. Tord Björklund was known for his industrial design, which combined functionality and aesthetics. His works often consisted of combinations of metal, leather, and wood. He was a member of the Swedish Designers' Association and won numerous awards, including the Industrial Design Prize from the Swedish Foundation for Design Promotion in 1983. The frame, bent from grey steel tubes, forms a slender yet stable construction that creates a beautiful contrast to the time-worn texture of the supple natural leather. This piece is highly sought after today, as furniture from Björklund's early IKEA collections was produced in small quantities and has now become design icons.
