Vintage ceiling lamp, suspended by a single center cord and three adjustable wires. Designed and manufactured by Tobias Grau in Munich around 1990. In neat vintage condition, with one tiny scratch (see photo) and some dirt residue under the orange trim (see photo). Removed from the ceiling in working order.

PROJECT X by Tobias Grau resembles a magnified lens. This height-adjustable pendant lamp emits a large amount of downward light through opal glass, while simultaneously illuminating the light upward through translucent diffusers. Satin-polished aluminum, opal glass, and polycarbonate give the lamp its distinctive character. This elegantly designed pendant lamp is available in red, orange, blue, and transparent.

Tobias Grau
After studying business administration in Munich, he moved to New York in 1983 to attend Parsons School of Design, after which he interned in the development department of Knoll International in Pennsylvania. In 1984, Tobias Grau began working as a freelance designer in Hamburg, designing interiors for advertising agencies, smaller businesses, and fashion boutiques. He also designed his own lighting and furniture for these projects. This work led to his first lighting collection, which he presented under his own name at the Cologne Furniture Fair in 1987. Developing new lighting fixtures and systems became his primary focus.
Designing and building high-quality fixtures with the best possible light quality—that is Tobias Grau's driving force and passion. This requires intensive involvement with new technologies and attention to ecological aspects. This quest for new possibilities and needs has resulted in numerous awards.
