About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
A rare matching pair of original Sphere Lounge Chairs, designed by Boris Tabacoff for Mobilier Modulaire Moderne (MMM), France, circa 1971.
These iconic lounge chairs are among the most distinctive examples of French Space Age design, combining sculptural smoked acrylic shells, chromed circular bases and original dark brown leather upholstery.
Both chairs remain in attractive original vintage condition. The original leather upholstery shows an attractive patina acquired over more than five decades. One chair has a small tear in the leather, visible in the photographs and reflected in the condition description.
The smoked brown acrylic shells are original and structurally sound, with no visible structural cracks around the mounting points. The chrome bases display honest age-related wear and light oxidation consistent with more than 50 years of use.
The chairs have intentionally been left unrestored. Many collectors prefer original examples, while a future owner may choose to professionally polish or re-chrome the bases if a fully restored appearance is desired.
An increasingly hard-to-find opportunity to acquire a complete matching pair of Boris Tabacoff's celebrated Sphere Chairs.
