Splendid trio of decorative vases in green glazed ceramic, all with raw black ceramic lids. Made of Raku ceramics, from the Japanese tradition. The different shapes and sizes of these three vases offset each other, creating a harmonious and balanced set. Includes certificate of authenticity. Comes from the private collection of Roche Bobois. It is signed by French ceramic artist Genevieve Berrin.
About the Raku technique
Raku comes from a 16th century Japanese style, established by the great masters of the tea ceremony. It reflects Japanese philosophy. This piece has been made entirely by hand, with the greatest care and respect for the different manufacturing stages. Raku involves removing from the oven at a high temperature and then smoking in wood chips for several hours. The cracks are due to thermal shock. This unique piece has been selected for its quality of shape and texture.
Raku pottery is a form of Japanese pottery that is distinguished by its unique firing process and the unusual results it produces. The term "Raku" translates as happiness in instant enjoyment and reflects the philosophy of this art, which values spontaneity and appreciation of the moment. The Raku firing process involves removing the pieces from the kiln while they are still incandescent and placing them in a container with combustible materials, such as wood shavings or paper. The rapid cooling and interaction with combustible materials create surprising glazes and effects, with colors and textures that vary unpredictably, turning each piece into a unique and unrepeatable work of art. Raku ceramics fuse technique with artistic expression, capturing the essence of the moment in each creation.
