ProfessionalProduct description
Set of 2 Platner lounge chairs designed by Warren Platner for Knoll, an enduring icon of modern design that effortlessly balances sculptural presence with everyday comfort. Introduced in 1966, the Platner collection redefined what steel furniture could be by transforming an industrial material into something refined, graceful, and deeply architectural.
Each chair is anchored by the signature wire base, composed of dozens of slender steel rods welded into a curved, pedestal-like structure. This intricate construction creates a striking play of light and shadow while giving the chairs a surprisingly airy appearance. Above, the generously curved shell invites the body into a relaxed posture, offering both visual softness and ergonomic support.
The chairs are upholstered in a rich green textured wool, a tone that feels both grounded and sophisticated. The fabric enhances the organic quality of the silhouette, while the subtle texture adds depth and warmth. Together, the color and material make these pieces ideal for interiors that value quiet statement objects rather than overt decoration.
Warren Platner, originally trained as an architect, worked alongside legends such as Eero Saarinen before establishing his own studio. With the Platner collection, he sought to create furniture that carried the decorative spirit of classical design into the modern age without sacrificing clarity or innovation. The result is a series that remains as relevant today as it was over half a century ago, widely celebrated for its elegance and technical mastery.
