The Ara floor lamp by Nemo Lighting | Cassina is an elegant example of contemporary Italian timeless design in which minimalist form and architectural lighting come together.
The design by architect-designer Ilaria Marelli from 2007 consists of a slender rectangular profile from which a vertical line of light emerges. The integrated light source is enhanced by a chrome reflector that softly diffuses the light into the room. The vertical line of light is rotatable 360 degrees.
Additionally, a dimmable uplighter is located at the top of the lamp, which illuminates the ceiling and creates a second layer of light. As a result, the lamp functions as both direct lighting and indirect mood lighting.
The combination of a vertical line of light and an uplighter makes the design particularly versatile within modern interiors.
The lamps are finished in black lacquered aluminum with a chrome reflective element. The combination of matte black and chrome gives the design a timeless and architectural appearance. The Ara lamp is still produced by Nemo Lighting and is one of the recognizable designs within their collection of contemporary designer lighting, with a retail price of around 1,300 euros. Other designers released by Nemo include Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, and Vico Magistretti.
Together, these two lamps form an attractive pair that can be placed symmetrically or side-by-side in interiors for a very strong visual, architectural, and minimalist effect. The lamps are very heavy and solidly constructed, and in very neat condition with minimal signs of use.
