Rosenthal Studio-Line Vase Duo – Tapio Wirkkala – Black & White Porcelain – Sculptural Modernism
A striking sculptural duo of porcelain vases designed by Tapio Wirkkala for Rosenthal Studio-Line, combining two distinct interpretations of the designer’s refined modernist language. Presented together, the vases form a powerful black-and-white composition that highlights Wirkkala’s mastery of surface, proportion, and optical contrast.
The white vase (model 13070/18, edition 2012) features a tactile dotted relief around the neck that evokes the natural textures often explored by Wirkkala in his work. The matte surface contrasts beautifully with the glossy rounded base, giving the form a soft yet architectural presence.
The taller black vase takes a more graphic and minimalist approach: a cylindrical silhouette interrupted by a sculptural waist, with alternating glossy and matte sections that play dramatically with light. A subtle dotted band detail adds rhythm and visual refinement.
Together, the two vases create a dialogue of opposites—light and dark, textured and smooth, organic and geometric—making them not only functional vessels but sculptural design objects.
