This large porcelain dish takes us to Arzberg, a small town in Bavaria that became one of the important centers of German porcelain. It was there that the Schumann family developed, from the end of the 19th century, a manufactory that would enjoy remarkable longevity and widely distribute its productions far beyond Germany's borders. Made around , this piece bears on its reverse the characteristic mark of the period, consisting of the mention "Bavaria," a crown surmounting the lion's coat of arms, and the name "Schumann Arzberg." Approximately 32 cm in diameter, the dish features a beautiful scalloped rim, enlivened with movements and embossed patterns directly inspired by rocaille vocabulary. This generous form gives the piece a particular presence, quite distinct from the sobriety that was beginning to dominate table arts in the 1960s. Schumann perpetuates here another tradition, that of large German decorative porcelains. On the ivory ground, small bouquets and scattered flowers in delicate colors are arranged. Pink roses, blue, pink, yellow, red, and violet blossoms follow one another without ever saturating the composition. A few gilded touches accompany the decoration while a fine border emphasizes the contours. This floral repertoire draws its inspiration from the naturalistic flower decorations developed by Germanic manufactories since the 18th century and long associated with the world of Saxon and Dresden porcelains. Schumann Arzberg delivers here a 20th-century interpretation, lighter, where the decoration remains essentially concentrated on the rim to allow the central basin its full luminosity. With its diameter of approximately 32 cm, this large dish naturally retains its purpose for serving and table presentation. Its animated contour and floral decoration also allow it to become a true decorative piece, displayed in a china cabinet, on a piece of furniture, or integrated into a wall composition of antique porcelains. The piece is preserved in very good condition, without cracks or chips, with discrete marks related to its age. The manufactory's mark remains perfectly visible on the reverse.
