Rosenthal Porcelain Vase Trio – Schreib, Freyer & “Pisa” Model – White Bisque, Germany, 1970s
A refined trio of sculptural porcelain vases by Rosenthal, executed in matte white bisque and united by a shared language of surface, structure, and light. Each piece represents a distinct design approach within Rosenthal’s postwar exploration of form—ranging from rhythmic relief to architectural geometry.
The three vases form a compelling composition: a slender cylindrical piece with subtle linear movement, a tactile relief vessel with an almost geological surface, and a tall, faceted form that rises like a stepped architectural volume. Together, they create a dialogue between precision and texture, restraint and expression.

About the Designers
Werner Schreib is known for his refined, minimal interventions in porcelain, often working with subtle linear structures that animate otherwise simple forms.
Martin Freyer, a key figure in Rosenthal’s artistic collaborations, approached porcelain as a graphic and sculptural medium, introducing relief surfaces that echo Op Art and architectural rhythm.
The “Pisa” model reflects Rosenthal’s late modernist interest in geometric reduction and spatial construction—transforming the vase into a vertical, almost architectural object.
Design Notes
This trio exemplifies Rosenthal’s ability to transform porcelain into a medium of sculptural inquiry. The absence of glaze emphasizes form and shadow, allowing each surface to respond sensitively to light. When grouped, the three vases create a balanced composition of height, volume, and texture—ideal for collectors who appreciate nuanced, monochrome design.
Perfect for minimalist, modernist, or gallery-like interiors, whether displayed together as a sculptural ensemble or individually.
