Product description
Condition: Good condition with signs of use consistent with age. The leather on the armrests shows some wear. The design duo Charles and Ray Eames were pivotal figures in the development of post-war American design. Their guiding principle was to create designs that were both high-quality and aesthetically sophisticated. Their use of innovative materials—such as die-cast aluminum and fiberglass—combined with ergonomic principles was revolutionary at the time. Their extensive body of work has influenced generations of architects and designers. Charles Eames was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1970 and to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1977. The ES 102 model was designed in 1967. Its brilliant design was so complex—and consequently costly—to manufacture that production ceased after just five years. As a result, the few surviving examples are rare and highly sought-after today. Charles Eames held the model in such high regard that he used the ES 102 at his personal home desk until his death.
