Product description
Rare and highly sculptural floor lamp manufactured by Kaiser Leuchten, Germany, during the 1950s.
The lamp is distinguished by its exceptionally light and architectural construction. A slender black lacquered metal structure rises from a compact conical base and bends twice to form an asymmetrical, almost graphic silhouette.
A long brass stem positioned at the centre of the lamp carries the light fitting, while the tall conical shade is suspended separately from the upper arm by an elegant brass wire hanger.
This unusual construction gives the shade the appearance of floating freely within the surrounding metal structure.
The original-period shade is covered in a finely woven natural fibre, most likely raffia, producing a warm and softly diffused light when illuminated. The natural texture of the shade provides a striking contrast to the restrained black metal and aged brass elements.
The design perfectly reflects the more decorative and experimental side of German post-war modernism in the 1950s, combining rational construction with organic materials and an unusually expressive silhouette.
The lamp is preserved in very good original vintage condition, retaining its aged surfaces and attractive natural patina. The shade shows minor age-related traces consistent with its vintage character.
