A very powerful and layered post-war Expressionist oil painting by the German academy artist Volker Jenny (Düsseldorf). The work is fully signed and dated in the lower left corner (presumably 1967 or 1969). The painting depicts an impressive, almost apocalyptic motif of a Gothic cathedral or church facade that appears to merge into a fiery, deep red background. The dynamic composition is built up with bright color contrasts and Jenny's characteristic heavy, dripping black paint lines (dripping effect). This gives the work enormous depth and emotional intensity. Volker Jenny was a respected visual artist and teacher in the Düsseldorf art scene. Works by his hand are rare and sought after by enthusiasts of the post-war 'Düsseldorf School' (Nachkriegskunst).
