About the Designer:
Born in 1929 in ØsterVrå, Denmark, designer Poul Kjærholm began his career as a cabinetmaker's apprentice in 1948. He studied at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, graduating in 1952, and taught there until 1956. He began as a lecturer at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1959, then became director of the Institute of Design in 1973, and became a professor in 1976.
Kjærholm's furniture designs are characterized by a simple aesthetic, favoring clean lines and the beauty of ornamented materials. He uses a lot of steel structures, often combining them with natural materials like wood, rattan, and leather. He is a strong supporter of industrial production.
