This exceptional armchair is the rare F156 "Little Oyster," designed by Pierre Paulin for Artifort. Introduced in 1959, the F156 is the smaller version of Paulin's iconic Oyster series. Unlike the larger and more common F157, the F156 was produced for a shorter period, never reissued, and is therefore considerably rarer on the collector's market today. This example is an authentic early edition, faithful to the original mid-century specifications.
The chair features Paulin's characteristic sculptural shell, with an open, embracing shape that remains visually light. The elegantly curved seat rests on the original nickel-plated steel frame, a hallmark of early Artifort production. The proportions of the F156 are more compact and refined, making it a particularly elegant presence in contemporary interiors.
Very good vintage condition with minor signs of wear consistent with age. The nickel-plated frame features a historic weld repair on one of the support tubes—a common reinforcement found in early Oyster chairs. The repair is structurally sound and invisible during normal use.
