Rare monumental design vase designed by Rogier Vandeweghe for atelier Amphora (Sint-Andries, Bruges), approx. 1962–1965. This iconic piece of studio ceramics is a beautiful example of Belgian modernism at its best. The vase immediately stands out with its elegant, hand-turned solifleur shape featuring a strikingly wide belly and an extremely long, slender neck. Glaze and texture. The vase is finished in the legendary, vibrant selenium red glaze. This intense red color was technically very complex to fire stably at the time and is therefore very rare. The glossy red finish beautifully contrasts with the two deep, roughly textured relief bands around the belly and neck, giving the vase a powerful, sculptural appearance.
