Product description
Beautiful vintage Dining set model 'Pali', designed by Louis van Teeffelen and produced by Wébé in the 1960s. The set consists of a large dining table and six matching dining chairs. A fine example of the later period in Van Teeffelen's work, in which he moved away from his more organic design language and his designs became sleeker and more understated.
This set comes from the daughter of the first owners from Leuth and has remained within the same family since its purchase in the 1960s.
The rosewood has been carefully restored. The wood has been sanded, nourished, and then finished with a protective semi-matte finish, bringing out its deep color and lively grain beautifully. The gray lacquered metal frames have been cleaned, with subtle signs of use deliberately preserved. These form a beautiful patina and contribute to the authentic character of the set.
The six chairs have been re-upholstered with high-quality black leather and fitted with new foam. Both the seat and the backrest are finished with piping, as was the case with the original design. The leather offers a more luxurious interpretation of the original skai upholstery but remains close to the original design in appearance.
The Pali has a sleek, minimalist design, in which the warm rosewood beautifully combines with the gray lacquered metal frames and black leather. The straight lines and slender construction give the set, despite the dark materials, an airy appearance. The wooden details at the ends of the legs provide a subtle playful accent and break up the strict design language. It is precisely in these kinds of details that Van Teeffelen's hand is clearly recognizable.
Summary: A special and rare Dining set from the later work of Louis van Teeffelen. A beautiful piece of Dutch design, with a rich history and a design that still feels remarkably modern more than sixty years later.
