This authentic vintage wooden type case, also known as a composing tray, originates from the traditional printing house. It is a historical utility object that served for the organized sorting and storage of lead type letters. The functional aesthetic and robust character make this object a striking example of early industrial craftsmanship. The piece is made of solid wood and is characterized by a warm, deep brown color scheme. The inside is divided into a multitude of small, rectangular compartments of different sizes, which creates a rhythmic and geometric interplay of lines. The original metal cup handle is still present on the side, with which the drawer was once pulled out of the composing cabinet. The object is also already equipped with metal hanging eyes, allowing it to be directly mounted as a wall object. The type case is in good, lived-in condition, appropriate for its age and original industrial use. The wood has developed a rich, natural patina over the decades.
