An original OSRAM Minispot, model 41601, in the rarer orange version.
When OSRAM introduced the Minispot principle, the problem of the adjustable spotlight was solved with disarming simplicity: The brushed stainless steel sphere is held by nothing but a magnet. No joint, no screw, no visible mechanics. The sphere can be removed, rotated, and aligned in any direction. The transformer disappears into the cubic plastic body, which gives the lamp its surprisingly heavy weight for its size.
In the 1979 catalog, OSRAM presented the Minispot not as a decorative object, but as a real lighting tool – for illuminating pictures and sculptures, as a reading, work, and accent light. This functional clarity has kept the design current for fifty years. The orange, however, unmistakably places it in its decade.
An easily overlooked detail: Thanks to the beveled base edge, the cube stands stably in two positions – upright or tilted, so that the spot shines against the wall or ceiling.
Details
Brushed stainless steel sphere shade, high-gloss orange plastic base with integrated transformer. Original black cord switch. Embossed on the underside "OSRAM 41601 – 220V – 20W" with VDE mark. Halospot included.
Condition
Original and unrestored. The lamp lights up, the magnet holds the sphere firmly in any position.
Frankly: There are scratches on the plastic base, clearly visible in the detail photos. The black cover in the sphere head is missing – a small part often lost with this model, hardly noticeable when switched on.
Above all: The connection to the bulb has loosened. The lamp lights up, but the contact is not permanently reliable. It is therefore offered as a decorative collector's item or for repair; before regular use, the electrics should be checked by a specialist. The price is calculated accordingly.
