Naihan Li – Rare Hydroponic Wardrobe Cabinet, Walnut & Stainless Steel – Lane Crawford Crates, 2014. Exceptional and highly unusual Hydroponic Wardrobe Cabinet designed by Naihan Li for the Lane Crawford Crates commission of 2014. The monumental mobile wardrobe combines traditional walnut cabinetmaking with the industrial language of Naihan Li's Crates collection. Behind its stainless-steel exterior, the cabinet opens to reveal walnut wardrobes, hanging rails, drawers, storage compartments and a geometric accessory display. Its most distinctive feature is the integrated illuminated hydroponic garden, transforming the wardrobe from a conventional storage object into a self-contained functional environment. The Lane Crawford commission is specifically documented as a commissioned series for the retailer's bespoke menswear exhibition, including a Closet Valet and “a wardrobe with a hydroponic garden.” Provenance: Acquired directly from Lane Crawford together with the Cloth Valet and Twin Shirt Cabinets from the same 2014 period. H 200cm × W 208 open 104cm folded × D 60 cm. We consider offering the three works together as one collection, because having three related Naihan Li pieces acquired together from Lane Crawford is arguably more interesting to a serious collector.
