Bring a deep, ancient soul into your interior with this impressive, early-Baroque Madonna with Child from the 17th century. With a monumental height of 80 cm and a powerful weight of no less than 15.7 kg, this solid oak sculpture makes an absolute statement in any space. This rare piece of North Dutch religious heritage depicts Mary as Queen of Heaven, recognizable by the sharp points of the royal crown. At the base is a finely carved winged angel (putto). On the back, the graceful locks of hair are beautifully visible, as are valuable fragments of the original 17th-century chalk and gesso layer. The statue bears the magnificent scars of time: the right forearm and parts of the child are worn away. This gives the object a serene, mysterious, and museum-worthy appearance that blends perfectly into a rugged, minimalist, or wabi-sabi interior. The deep shrinkage crack on the back is the ultimate, natural proof of its great age. Note on conservation: The characteristic old woodworm holes have recently been completely and professionally fumigated. The biological infestation has been 100% stopped, and the object is guaranteed safe for your interior.
