Product description
Monumental pair of Chinese cloisonné figures of Lü Dongbin and Lan Caihe, two of the Eight Immortals. China, Qing Dynasty, approx. 1850–1900. Cloisonné enamel on copper alloy/bronze with gilded parts. Lü Dongbin: H 79 cm; Lan Caihe: H 76 cm; combined approx. 41 kg. The enameled robes show the An Baxian attributes. The pair has been technically examined, also with microscopic magnification and UV light; the Qianlong mark has been judged as later/apocryphal. The surface shows old wear, pitting, local enamel losses, oxidation and later gilding of the faces. An impressive, iconographically elaborate ensemble.
