Beautiful vintage modular cabinet, designed by William Watting and produced by Fristho Franeker in the 1950s. The American-Danish designer collaborated with Fristho from the mid-1950s, for whom he designed the successful Modernart series. This collection marked an important step in the modernization of the Dutch furniture manufacturer.
This cabinet is in beautiful, completely original condition and has developed a warm, characteristic patina over the years. The walnut wood has a beautiful, deep color and a lively grain. Light scratches and other signs of wear are present, appropriate for the age of the furniture, and contribute to its authentic appearance.
The design is characterized by an open, slender construction, where the warm walnut wood beautifully contrasts with the subtle brass details. The slim uprights and horizontal connections give the cabinet an airy appearance, while the carefully chosen proportions ensure a calm and balanced whole. The combination of wood, glass, and brass reflects the attention to material use and detailing that is so characteristic of Watting's work.
A special feature of this cabinet is its modular construction, allowing the different components to be arranged as desired and the layout to be easily adjusted. The cabinet features a flap cabinet, a display cabinet with glass doors and glass shelves, and three shelves. Originally, this piece was the upper part of a larger Wall cabinet, but the design also stands out beautifully as a standalone piece of furniture.
