Product description
This Danish desk from the 1960s, manufactured by Domino Møbler, represents a typical approach to furniture design in the spirit of Scandinavian Modern. Its simple, logical structure is based on a symmetrical layout – modules with three drawers are located on both sides, and the central legroom which, improving ergonomics and giving the shape a lighter feel. The desk is made of teak veneer combined with solid wood elements. Teak was one of the primary materials used in Danish furniture at the time – valued for its durability and stability, but also for its distinctive, warm tone and distinct grain. The surface retains the natural appearance of the wood, without excessive gloss, which was in keeping with the contemporary approach to furniture finishing. The drawer fronts feature small, geometric wooden handles, an integral element of the design. The upper drawers feature locks with brass details, a common feature in desks of this class. The entire piece rests on slender, straight legs that lift the frame off the floor and give the structure proportions characteristic of the 1960s. Domino Møbler was a Danish manufacturer operating during the post-war development of Scandinavian design. The company specialized in the production of teak furniture – chests of drawers, desks, and bookcases – in a mid-century modern style. Its products were characterized by simple form and functionality, and production occurred primarily in the 1960s, a period when Danish furniture was widely exported to European and American markets. The piece has been professionally and carefully restored by removing old coatings, staining and finishing with varnish. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced carpenter with over 20 years of experience. Thanks to these treatments, the desk looks stunning and will serve its new owner for many years without fear of damage or wear from everyday use.
