This work is a sculpture by the Italian artist Lorenzo Pepe (1912-1984), made of litoceramica and mounted on a wooden base. Titled "Testa" (Head), the work captures the essence of a childlike face with a primitivist modernist sensibility, characteristic of 20th-century Italian sculptural production. The sculpture is made of litoceramica, a technique that gives the surface a material texture and an opaque beige finish. The head rests on a solid cubic brown wooden base, which accentuates its form and material. An coeval brass plaque with the artist's name and the inscription "Litoceramica Piccinelli" is affixed to the base, while the artist's signature, "L-PEPE", is engraved on the back of the sculpture's neck.
