Longwy Hand-Decorated Ceramic Centerpiece Dish, France, Mid-20th Century
An impressive and highly decorative ceramic centerpiece dish by Faïenceries de Longwy, one of France’s most celebrated faience manufacturers. Measuring an impressive 50 cm in width, this generously sized piece was designed to serve as a striking focal point on a dining table, sideboard, or console.
Its elegant elongated form is enhanced by a richly detailed floral composition, hand-decorated in vibrant enamels against a deep black ground. Brilliant red blossoms, delicate white flowers, and vivid blue cornflowers intertwine with finely rendered foliage, creating a composition that is both dramatic and refined. The contrast between the luminous enamel colors and the glossy black background gives the piece remarkable visual depth and presence.
The underside bears the Longwy mark along with the inscription “Décoré à la Main – Couleurs Inaltérables – Grand Feu”, confirming the use of the manufactory’s renowned hand-decoration techniques and high-temperature enamel firing process. The piece is also marked with its model number, further supporting its authenticity.
Founded in 1798, Faïenceries de Longwy earned international recognition for its exceptional decorative ceramics and distinctive enamel work.
