Le Corbusier LC5
The LC5 is a design by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand and was originally designed as lounge furniture for Le Corbusier's apartment. The design dates from 1928 and was later included in the Cassina collection.
The strength of the LC5 lies in the combination of a distinct geometric shape and a relatively understated use of materials. The polished metal frame supports the separate, voluminous cushions, giving the furniture a clear architectural character without appearing heavy.
The LC5 is therefore a design in which functionality and form are closely linked. The freestanding frame and loose cushions give the design a distinctive appearance, while the low seat and generous form invite use.
As part of the history of modern design, the LC5 holds a special position. It is a design that is not dependent on trends and can therefore easily be placed alongside various interior styles and periods.
A recognizable design, but above all a good example of the design vision of Le Corbusier, Jeanneret and Perriand: clarity in form, attention to proportion and functionality as a starting point.
