Product description
Large mid-century sunburst wall mirror from the 1950s, constructed entirely from carved wood with a gilt gold finish. At the center, the circular mirror measures 31 cm (12.20 in) in diameter, surrounded by an inner border carved with sculpted waves in high relief. Radiating outward from this central frame is a dense, multi-tiered array of carved wooden rays detailed with longitudinal channels that capture and reflect ambient light. The composition is defined by dense arrays of radiating wooden rays arranged in staggered tiers, each element carved with longitudinal channels that interact with surrounding light. The interplay between the fluted rays and the circular core reinforces the classic solar motif prevalent in post-war European decorative arts. With an overall diameter of 101 centimeters, the piece carries substantial visual weight, functioning effectively as a focal element positioned above a fireplace mantel, a hallway console, or a living room sideboard in both modern and neoclassical interiors. The central section features a refinished gold finish.
