A beautiful piece of decorative earthenware where Boch's craftsmanship meets the imagination of Dutch landscapes. This large dish, approximately 30.5 cm in diameter, belongs to the Delfts production made by Boch Belgium for Royal Sphinx Holland in the 1970s. Its blue monochrome decoration reproduces a work by the Dutch painter George Jan Hendrik Poggenbeek ( ), an artist associated with the Hague School and particularly renowned for his rural landscapes imbued with calm and light. At the center unfolds a true Dutch countryside scene: a canal lined with reeds, a boat moored near the bank, a farmhouse half-hidden behind a tree, and, above all, an elegant drawbridge around which the entire perspective is organized. A solitary walker on the path adds to the composition that small human presence which immediately brings the landscape to life. The particularly elaborate border frames the scene with rich floral decoration and Delft blue arabesques. The whole possesses that characteristic graphic depth of large blue and white decorative pieces: from a distance, the dish gives structure to a wall or a composition; up close, it reveals a multitude of small details. The inscription « G. Poggenbeek » visible in the landscape corresponds to a reproduction of the artist's signature from the work that served as the model. It is therefore not a handwritten signature applied directly to the dish. On the reverse, the blue mark « Made for Royal Sphinx Holland – by Boch Belgium – Delfts » clearly identifies this production, associating two great names in European earthenware. A particularly appealing piece for collectors of Boch, Royal Sphinx, Delftware, and Dutch decorations, but also a beautiful decorative object to display alone on a wall, on an antique dresser, or as part of a blue and white earthenware composition.
