The iconic Kengu lounge chair, designed in the 1970s by Elsa and Nordahl Solheim for the Norwegian manufacturer Rybo, combines Scandinavian elegance with exceptional seating comfort and is now considered one of the most sought-after lounge furniture pieces of its time.
Characteristic of the chair is the seemingly floating seat shell made of thick, softly upholstered leather, supported by a striking frame of molded plywood. The gently curved construction creates a springy seating position and lends the chair its distinctive lightness. The deeply contoured seat and the generously sized backrest with its signature button tufting ensure exceptional comfort and invite you to relax and unwind.
With its sculptural form and high-quality combination of materials, the Kengu is an outstanding example of 1970s Scandinavian design and makes a strong statement both as a standalone piece and as part of a design collection.
Condition: Very good vintage condition with a beautiful patina. The leather shows signs of age and natural creasing. Sturdy and fully functional.
