Product description
Josef Hůrka for Napako Type 1630 Chrome and Grey-Painted Metal Table Lamp, Czechoslovakia, 1960s
A distinctive mid-century modern table lamp designed by Josef Hůrka for the renowned Czechoslovak lighting manufacturer Napako during the 1960s.
The Type 1630 model is a striking example of Czech modernist lighting design, characterized by its sculptural silhouette, refined geometric construction, and functional adjustability.
The lamp features a polished cylindrical chrome-plated metal base combined with an elegantly curved, shell-shaped metal reflector.
The adjustable reflector is finished in grey-painted metal on the exterior, while its contrasting cream-colored interior provides a warm visual balance to the reflective chrome base.
Mounted on horizontal metal supports, the shade can be repositioned to create different lighting arrangements and visual compositions.
The combination of a polished chrome cylinder and a softly curved, painted metal reflector gives the lamp a distinctive architectural quality, reflecting the experimental approach to lighting design that characterized Central European modernism during the 1960s.
Its sculptural form incorporates elements associated with Space Age design, Bauhaus-inspired functionalism, and minimalist mid-century aesthetics.
Despite its compact dimensions, the lamp creates a strong visual statement, making it suitable for use as a bedside lamp, desk light, decorative accent, or collectible design object.
The chrome-plated base has been carefully repolished, restoring its reflective appearance while preserving the authentic character of the original construction.
The electrical wiring has also been renewed.
