Jean Prouvé Architecte – A striking large-format poster published by Archives Internationales in 1995, celebrating the work of one of France’s most influential architects, designers and constructors of the 20th century.
The composition combines a striking black-and-white portrait of Jean Prouvé, photographed in front of his house in Nancy circa 1955, with a series of original-looking architectural and furniture sketches. The drawings shown on the poster include studies for school furniture dating from around 1950, illustrating Prouvé’s characteristic approach to functional design, industrial production and construction.
The lower right section identifies the source material as “Esquisses de mobilier scolaire, vers 1950”, with the drawings credited to the Fonds Archives Jean Prouvé and photographic material credited to the Centre de Documentation du Patrimoine / Service Régional de l’Inventaire Général and the Prouvé family archives.
The poster was produced in 1995 by Archives Internationales, an imprint known for its high-quality graphic editions and serigraphic publications based on the work of artists, designers and draughtsmen. The Centre de la Gravure et de l’Image Imprimée holds this exact work in its collection under the title Jean Prouvé Architecte, dated 1995, with recorded dimensions of 69.5 × 100 cm.
Presented in its original-style slim aluminium frame, the work has a particularly strong graphic presence and combines archival photography, architectural drawing and bold typography in a distinctly late-20th-century French design language.
