A brutalist sideboard with four doors, designed by Jean Batenburg for MI (Belgium) in the 1960s and executed in solid, ebonized oak. The furniture is made of solid oak and finished with a deep, dark stain, giving the piece a powerful, architectural look. The most striking feature is the strongly geometric design of the four doors. Each door consists of deeply faceted oak panels in a repeating diamond pattern, creating a distinct three-dimensional surface across the entire front. The slanted facets interact fascinatingly with the ambient light, subtly changing the appearance of the sideboard depending on the viewing angle. Despite the expressive front, the basic form remains understated and rectilinear; characteristic of Batenburg's robust approach to cabinet furniture for MI. Opening the four doors reveals a contrasting, lighter interior. The cabinet space is partly equipped with shelves and offers ample storage, while the construction remains simple and functional. The contrast between the dark exterior and the lighter interior further emphasizes the solid oak construction. The original keys are present. A special example of Belgian furniture design from the 1960s, combining a solid oak construction with an exceptionally graphic and deeply modeled front. D x H x W: 53 x 80 x 198 cm. Good vintage condition with visible signs of age and use. The original dark stain finish shows areas where the color has worn off, scratches, small stains, and scuffs, particularly on the top, along the edges, and around the doors. In various places, the warmer, natural tone of the underlying oak wood emerges due to wear. The original keys are present. Please refer to the detailed photos for the overall condition.
