An Italian side table from the 1970s whose structure evokes engineering precision rather than conventional furniture making. The lattice-like pedestal, reminiscent of telecommunications towers or bridge trusses, lends it the character of technical sculpture — an object that commands attention through form as much as it serves a practical purpose. The design builds on the contrast between the airy, openwork structure of the leg and the solid, round tabletop. Three vertical tubes joined by triangular cross-braces form a truss that transfers weight to a flat circular base. A dark composite top with subtle veining crowns the composition, its smooth surface set against the geometric precision of the metal framework. The proportions allow the table to work equally well beside an armchair or as a standalone sculptural element. Italian design of the 1970s embraced industrial aesthetics and constructivism, translating the language of engineering into domestic objects. Designers of that decade — from Sottsass to the Castiglioni brothers — treated technology not as necessity but as a source of new beauty. This table belongs to a broader movement that experimented with synthetic materials and metal, which in Italian hands acquired unexpected elegance. The truss, ordinarily hidden within buildings and and bridges, became here a decorative feature in its own right. The table serves well as a companion to a sofa or lounge chair, accommodating a cup, a book, or a lamp. With a top diameter of seventy-four centimetres, it offers a practical surface while remaining visually light enough not to overwhelm a room. The piece is in good condition, bearing the natural traces of use consistent with its age. Minor scratches and small chips are visible on the surfaces, and slight losses have been filled.
