For sale is an exceptionally beautiful 6-piece set of English mocha spoons made of Sterling Silver 925/1000 with colored floral enamel, from Henry Clifford Davis, Birmingham. Each of the six spoons, approx. 8 cm long, features a different, finely crafted floral motif on the back of the bowl. Comparable H.C.-Davis sets with six different floral enamel motifs and a length of 8 cm are also listed as Sterling Silver and Birmingham around 1959. The completely preserved history of this set is particularly charming: It comes from family ownership and was given as a wedding gift in 1959. The spoons have never been used and have since been stored in their original presentation case in the cupboard. Even the original wedding congratulatory card from November 11, 1959, is still in the case. The original Proud’s presentation case is covered on the outside with black leather and features a gold-colored decorative embossing. Inside, it bears the inscription: “MADE IN ENGLAND EXPRESSLY FOR PROUD’S” Proud’s The Jewellers was founded in Sydney in 1903 and is one of Australia's traditional jewelry houses. The original inscription on the case documents that the set was intended for Proud’s in England. The Hallmarks The British silver hallmarks stamped on the spoons provide important information about origin and material: HCD – Maker's mark of Henry Clifford Davis, Birmingham. The mark is for Henry Clifford Davis. Anchor – Assay mark of the Birmingham Assay Office. It shows that the silver was tested in Birmingham. Lion Passant – British standard mark for Sterling Silver 925/1000. This means it is not merely silver-plated material. Date letter – the additional letter hallmark within the Birmingham hallmarking system serves for dating. Comparable HCD enamel spoons with Birmingham Hallmark are documented for approx. 1959.
