Product description
Gouache on paper “The Bay of Marseille, Seen from L’Estaque”, after Paul Cézanne, Post-Impressionism, 20th century – France Technique: Gouache on paper Title of the work: “The Bay of Marseille, Seen from L’Estaque” Artist: After Paul Cézanne Period: 20th Century Country of origin: France Good condition considering its age and use Overall dimensions: 68 x 83 x 5 cm Dimensions without frame: 45 x 52 cm A delicate and pleasing gouache based on an original work by Paul Cézanne, “The Bay of Marseille, Seen from L’Estaque”, 1885 (The Bay of Marseille, Seen from L’Estaque). Paul Cézanne is considered one of the fathers of modern painting, a bridge between the 19th century and the new proposals of the 20th, as well as a major precursor of Cubism. He sought to achieve a harmonious communion between naturalism, personal expression, and pictorial order. He represented the world with the utmost pictorial precision, structurally ordering everything into simple forms and planes of color. Everything was geometry. The choice of gouache allowed the artist to work with greater saturation and control, achieving a surface rich in nuances and contrasts. Unlike watercolor, gouache allows for greater definition and layering of paint, which the artist used to reinforce the material and chromatic presence of each element. He focused on capturing the beauty of the landscape, without an apparent message or critique, an aspect that links him to Post-Impressionism. Furthermore, the way in which the drawing dissolves through the simplification of figures into patches of color is characteristic of his work. The various figures of houses and landscape elements dissolve into small, quick dabs of color that bring the work to life. The vibrant colors add dynamism to the scene. The brushstrokes are loose and visible, typical of the Impressionists, with considerable texture, which reinforces the sense of movement and light. It is a piece that conveys calm with a serene and balanced composition, where the only thing that matters is the contemplation of its beauty. Shipping costs will be paid by the buyer according to the dimensions, weight, and destination. We will contact you to arrange shipping and agree on a quote.
