An exceptional vintage nine-light brass chandelier attributed to renowned Italian lighting designer Gaetano Sciolari, dating from around 1970. Nine tall cylindrical lamp holders are connected by an intricate lattice of interlocking tubular brass arms, creating a sculptural, architectural composition that changes from every angle. The open geometric structure combines the precision of Italian modernism with the glamour of Space Age and Hollywood Regency design. With an overall height of only 35 cm, this compact semi-flush version offers the presence of a statement chandelier without requiring an unusually high ceiling. When illuminated, its polished golden surfaces beautifully reflect the light and create a warm, atmospheric glow. The design closely corresponds to Sciolari’s documented nine-light model 2202/9, recognised by its distinctive tubular framework. ABOUT GAETANO SCIOLARI Angelo Gaetano Sciolari (1927–1994) was an architect-trained Italian designer and one of the defining figures of post-war European lighting. In 1949, he took over his family’s historic Rome lighting company and transformed it into an internationally recognised design house. Sciolari became celebrated for combining disciplined architectural geometry with luxurious materials and finishes. His work brought together influences from cubism, minimalism, Art Deco and the emerging Space Age. Through his association with Stilnovo and international distribution by companies including Lightolier and Progress Lighting, his chandeliers reached interiors throughout Europe and the United States. Original examples are now highly collectable.
