This set is a design by architect Josef Hoffmann (1870-1956).
The construction, the wood connections and the curved shapes are typical Hoffmann style elements.
The set includes two armchairs, two cafe chairs, a bench and a matching table. The seating furniture is upholstered in an exclusive Art Nouveau fabric.
This furniture was specially designed in 1907 for the famous Design/wonder cabaret "Fledermaus" in Vienna. Fritz Waerndorfer, a gentleman with a lot of money and taste, commissioned the Wiener Werkstätte to build a cabaret. Furniture designers, ceramists, silversmiths, lamp designers and graphic artists worked together to realize this Gesamtkunstwerk, which is not based on tradition.
