Product description
Made in Denmark by Glostrup Møbelfabrik, this extendable teak dining table combines a generously proportioned round top with a striking pedestal base. Dating to around the 1960s, it has two distinct but equally convincing forms: a compact circle and, with its separate leaves inserted, a long oval. The softly curved ends remain prominent when the table is extended, giving the larger configuration the same considered outline as the smaller one.
The tabletop is animated by broad variations in the teak grain, with honey-coloured passages set against darker, finely drawn lines. A smoothly rounded edge follows the perimeter and gives the surface a substantial yet carefully shaped profile. Below, paired upright supports sweep into long, splayed feet. Their curves echo the top while bringing a more architectural quality to the base, which remains an important part of the table’s appearance in either configuration.
The separate leaves extend the surface at its centre, and the photographed underside reveals metal extension rails and a retaining fitting. These functional elements serve a design in which adaptability does not come at the expense of character. Round, the table feels centred and sculptural; extended, its flowing outline, prominent grain and shaped supports give the longer form a strong identity of its own.
