All her life she has been involved in design, furnishing and fashion. She has worked for a number of well-known Dutch interior designers and she herself had a shop in Deventer for a long time. First vintage and curiosities and later American seconds in combination with fashion. She has always tried to beautify and embellish her surroundings. She can only find peace in a harmonious environment. And if it isn't there, she creates it.
All her life she has been involved in design, decoration and fashion. As such she worked for a number of famous Dutch interior architects. She herself had a shop in Deventer for a long time. First vintage and curiosities and later American seconds in combination with fashion. She always tried to beautify her environment. She can only find rest and peace in an harmonious environment. And when there is none she will create it.
Then why did you start painting, I asked. Her answer was astonishing. You expect a whole story about education, art academy and abroad. But she said: "I was with my sister at Leen Bakker and my sister bought some small canvases and then I thought, let me try that too."

Everyone can put something on a canvas every now and then, but you can't immediately call it art. Ultimately, that's what your environment does. And that environment, it gets bigger because you stand out.
Elles prefers to paint on large canvases with a lot of panache. You can almost say that she models her canvases. She hardly ever works with a brush, but often with putty knives or anything within reach. Usually she works "wet in wet" because she is in a hurry. She then says she is in a "flow" and she cannot stop.
Most artists you speak to say that they have an idea of something. Elles doesn't have that, she can't imagine anything visually. That means she starts a work with a vague feeling and then something arises. And only then does she see what it will become.
Anyone can put something on a canvas, but you cannot describe that as being Art right away. That's up to the spectator. That environment gets bigger because you are noticed. Elles paints large canvases with panache. You might say that she sculpts her canvases. She hardly ever uses a brush, but mostly she works with a painters knife or anything else within reach. Thanks in part to her website www.EllesBB.nl, not only customers have found her, but she is and is regularly asked at home and abroad for exhibitions in galleries and at exhibitions. She has now appeared five times with a number of works in Dutch and foreign books.
