Bernard Rancillac, born on 29 August 1931 in Paris and died on 29 November 2021 in Malakoff1, was a French painter and sculptor, a major representative of the new figuration. In 1966, he created his only piece of furniture, the elephant chair, presented as part of the exhibition "Les Assises du siège contemporain" at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in May 1968.
