Product description
Elegant rare kokeshi by Miyashita Hajime. This is a truly rare and beautiful work of art. This elegant sōsaku kokeshi doll, created by Miyashita Hajime, immediately catches the eye due to its distinctive shape. Instead of the traditional, sleek cylindrical form, this doll features an innovative, asymmetrical structure. The doll wears a gracefully carved kimono with subtle, refined floral motifs, and the whole piece exudes a great sense of tranquility and sophistication. What makes the design even more unique is the beautiful updo hairstyle adorned with a striking red accent. The combination of natural wood, graceful lines, and the masterful signature on the bottom makes this a very special and precious collector's item. Miyashita-san (1940-2006), born in Yonezawa City, Iwate, studied the making of traditional kokeshi under Yamagata-Sakunami master artist Kobayashi Kichitaro. He began his Sosaku career in 1959 and won many awards, including the Prime Minister's Award in 1977. Crown Prince Naruhito and Princess Masako purchased his culturally sensitive dolls in 1969. His studio was located in the city of Maebashi in Gunma Prefecture, but after it was consumed by fire in 2006, Miyashita-san retired. The height is 25 cm; please view the photos for the condition. Please note: The kokeshi dolls are not new, so there will always be scratches, discoloration, and/or cracks/dents present to a greater or lesser extent.
