Set of 2 early Tulip armchairs designed by Eero Saarinen in 1957 for Knoll International. This set was produced by De Coene, at the time the official European manufacturer of Knoll furniture. These two chairs were among the very first ones manufactured in Europe and were originally part of the interior of the CEO of De Coene himself.
The Tulip armchair is a modernist icon, known for its sleek, sculptural form and innovative use of materials. Saarinen wanted to end the "tangle of chair legs" among traditional chairs by creating a design with a single, central leg. Made of a combination of fiberglass and aluminum, the chair combines functionality with futuristic elegance.
Over the years, the chairs have developed a natural patina. The subtle wear and slight discoloration add to their unique charm and character.
