The work consists of an installation or composition of numerous small lights that together form an imaginary miniature city or a "backdrop for your own imagination". Zantinge designed it with the idea that it should function like an illustration in a children's or comic book: she provides the setting, and the viewer brings it to life in their own imagination. Janneke Zantinge studied Product Design at the Utrecht University of the Arts. The light artwork 'Utopia' was exhibited, among other places, in shop windows and at art institutions such as Galerie Lous Martin in Delft. This is a sculptural table lamp by the Dutch designer Janneke Zantinge. The piece, titled 'Utopia' and dating from 2006, is a distinct example of Dutch Design, where functionality and artistic form converge. The lamp is made of a composite material with a grey, textured finish reminiscent of concrete or stone. The inside is painted red, which creates a warm and atmospheric light when the lamp is on. The light escapes through the horizontal slats at the top, giving a diffuse and directed effect. The bottom is stamped with the designer's name, the title, and the year.
