A vintage Danish Modern teak extendable dining table attributed to Sven Ellekaer, produced in Denmark during the 1960s. This uncommon mid-century modern dining table combines a warm teak surface with an unusually sculptural frame, distinctive tapered legs and a central 50 cm extension, expanding from 160 to 210 cm. A particularly refined example of Scandinavian modern furniture with a stronger architectural presence than the more restrained Danish teak tables of the period. Designer: Attributed to Sven Ellekaer Origin: Denmark Period: 1960s Style: Danish Modern / Scandinavian Modern / Mid-Century Modern Materials: Teak, teak veneer, metal hardware Dimensions: 160–210 W × 85 D × 75.5 H cm (63–82.7 W × 33.5 D × 29.7 H in) Marked: Faint numerical production stamp visible to the frame; no designer or maker label present The long rectangular tabletop is softened by gently rounded edges and a calm, linear teak grain. Most distinctive is the sculptural underframe, where the substantial tapered legs rise into curved shoulders that disappear beneath the top. This recessed construction creates a subtle floating tabletop effect, making the broad surface appear almost suspended above the frame. The darker, more expressive teak of the base adds depth beneath the lighter tabletop, while the carefully shaped transitions between legs, apron and top give the table its unusually fluid, architectural presence. Sven Ellekaer worked with several Danish manufacturers during the 1960s, including Christian Linneberg Møbelfabrik and Heltborg Møbler. Documented Ellekaer tables from this period show his characteristic interest in strongly modelled teak structures, curved transitions and unusually sculptural supports rather than purely rectilinear Danish Modern construction. The attribution of this particular table is strengthened by its provenance. It was acquired from the same household as a documented Sven Ellekaer teak sideboard retaining its original “Creation Sven Ellekaer – Danemark” label, and the table shares the same distinctive sculpted leg and frame language seen across Ellekaer’s documented furniture. We have not located a documented example of this exact dining table, however, and the table itself carries no Ellekaer label. It is therefore conservatively presented as attributed to Sven Ellekaer rather than as a confirmed design. Condition Good vintage condition with signs of age and use consistent with its period. The teak shows light surface scratches, small marks and gentle wear to the edges and frame, together with the warm patina expected from a table of this age. There is some subtle tonal variation between the main tabletop and extension leaf from differing exposure over time. The extension mechanism remains functional and the table is structurally stable and ready for use
